Kyle Durden ’86
Kyle Durden was born in Corpus Christi, TX and graduated from Port Aransas High School in 1982. It was during this time that he fell in love with the sea. He went on to graduate from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1986 with a B.S in Marine Engineering and a U.S. Coast Guard license as a 3rd Assistant Engineer of Steam and Motor vessels of any horsepower. He began his sailing career with Sabine Towing and Transportation working on steam powered tankers running in the coastwise trade in the United States. He continued working for various companies as a member of the American Maritime Officers’ Union, always on steam ships, attaining his Chief Engineer’s license at age 29.
Kyle came ashore to work as a port engineer where he managed maintenance and overhaul of minewarfare vessels located at Naval Station Ingleside. During this time, he was also part of Class I of the Texas A&M University Executive MBA program, graduating in 2001. Upon graduation, he accepted a position with GE Aero Energy Products in Houston where he managed gas turbine installations on cruise ships for Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Cunard Lines. Since then, he has worked for various ship management firms before accepting his present role with Gulf Copper and Manufacturing Corp.
Kyle has two sons, Alex and Tyler (TAMU Class of 2018). He continues to live in Houston, TX.
